About the role

As Lead Game Designer you’ll be responsible for not only the successful design and execution of a large-scale blockchain game project but also establishing game design best practices within the studio, growing and mentoring a best-in-class game design team.

Responsibilities

• Create and own game design best practices and processes within team and studio
• Hands-on game designer – Create detailed and easy to follow game designs documentation for core gameplay and supporting systems as well as tuning and balancing
• Lead and participate in brainstorm sessions, refining and executing ideas within a schedule
• Work with production to propose a game design that achieves business objectives
• Work with production to prioritize and scope game design developed in a cadence that delivers the highest impact to the player, first
• Shared responsibility of game’s overall design vision and ensure team and leadership team are aligned on vision
• Consistently and clearly report game design progress to team and leadership
• Develop and execute a play-testing plan for the game. Consolidate play-testing feedback and adjust game designing planning, accordingly
• Manage and coach junior game design team
• Lead level designers to create interesting scenarios, events, and progression design
• Work with product manager to identify KPIs to track for monitoring game performance and how those analytics are integrated into the decision-making process

Requirements

• Excellent English-speaking written and verbal communication skills
• The candidate must be willing to take a short design test
• Been through at least one full production cycle on a commercially successful game in any product role for any platform
• Strong and clear communicator of game design and systems
• Experience scripting and designing combat/battles, opponents, and bosses
• Understanding of how to balance matchmaking system and the tuning required for progression journey through tournaments, leagues, and rank systems
• Created and balanced complex game economies and progression design systems such as game currency reward progression, XP curve progression, combat system difficulty progression, and more
• Rapidly prototyped core gameplay mechanics and systems – able to test, identify new opportunities and make tangible progress based on improved game KPIs and play-test feedback
• Demonstrable understanding of how the meta in competitive card games evolves as a consequence of the introduction of new mechanics and synergies
• Design experience working on RPG or similar adventure/action titles with combat systems, level/skill progression, and XP/currency economies with long-term balancing/tuning planning required

Nice-to-have

• Previous experience designing digital or analog TCG battle games
• Extensive experience playing digital and/or analog trading card games
• Experience mentoring other game designers
• Blockchain game development experience
• Previous management experience
• Familiarity with statistics or analytics
